I have been a teacher since 2003 graduating from Rolle College with a BED in English. The last 17 years have seen me working in the same Primary school, starting as a full-time class teacher, and becoming a SENDCo in 2007. I achieved the SENDCo award in 2014 and have worked full-time in this role until now. I have also had two children of my own in this time and overcome some challenges life has thrown my way.
My approach to supporting children with additional needs is to ensure that the child is at the centre. I love nothing more than finding ways to break down barriers, building relationships and helping them to achieve in a way that works for them. I have worked closely with other professionals to support children and have a wealth of ideas and resources to call upon. I have a particular interest in Autism and have completed the Devon Enhanced Autism Programme helping to embed a consistent approach to supporting children with Autism in a mainstream school. I have also worked closely with the Dyslexia outreach service to create individual learning plans for children.
I can’t wait to become an established member of Esteem Team and bring my love for learning and enthusiasm for supporting children with additional needs to a setting who work so hard to make a difference in the lives of children and families in our local community.
When I’m not working, I love to spend time outdoors with my family. I love reading, baking, walking, and spending time with friends. I also love to sing but not sure my family love to hear me!
